Best Double-Sided Tapes for Woodworking

1. XFasten Double-Sided Woodworking Tape – #1 Best Overall

XFasten Woodworking Tape

XFasten Double Sided Woodworking Tape is the best double-sided woodworking tape because it’s strong, reliable, easy to use, and safe. Plus, just a little over $20 for more than 100 feet of this stuff is a great deal.

This industrial-grade white tape has a yellow cloth backing, and this helps it resist curling so it’s easier to apply and remove.

Its durability makes it a great double-sided woodworking tape for splicing, routing, anchoring, CNC woodworking, and machine cutting.

Yet even though it’s one of the more durable woodworking tapes, it doesn’t chip a finished surface as it’s being removed, nor does it leave behind a lot of silicone-based adhesive residue.

This product was developed in collaboration with professional woodworkers on Instagram, so it’s marketed as woodworking tape made by woodworkers for woodworkers.

Its optimal thickness is another reason why you don’t have to worry about chipping, scratching, etc. when removing this tape.

Lastly, this roll of tape is compatible with hardwoods (oak and walnut), softwoods (ash and pine), plywood, and medium-density fiberboard (MDF).

What I Liked:

  • Thickness makes it tough enough to withstand even heavy-duty woodworking
  • Won’t damage a surface even after long-term (6+ months) use
  • Fast application thanks to easy-to-remove backing
  • Holds even heavier hardwoods in place during cutting, routing, etc

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Need to place quickly or adhesive won’t work as well
  • Can be too sticky for some temporary anchoring tasks

My Thoughts

XFasten Double Sided Woodworking Tape is an all-around terrific double-sided woodworking tape, mainly because it’s tough, reliable, and easy to apply. Whereas other double-sided woodworking tapes will have you spending minutes trying to remove the backing, this tape’s backing comes right off. Plus, it can secure heavier materials, making clamps unnecessary. My only criticism is the adhesive dries rather quickly when exposed to air, so you have to apply it quickly. But overall, a tape of this quality—at this price—is a screaming BUY!

2. Primens Double Sided Carpet Tape – Best Value

Primens Double Sided Woodworking Tape

Primens Double Sided Carpet Tape isn’t designed for woodworking, but its reliability and ease of use make it a great double-sided woodworking tape.

Plus, it’s half the price of many double-sided woodworking tapes that aren’t as good.

And like high-grade woodworking tape, this tape doesn’t leave behind any residue whilst being removed.

When cutting it, you don’t have to worry about it tearing, nor do you have to worry about it gumming up your cutting tool.

And when it’s time to remove it from a finished surface, you don’t need a scraper or something similar to remove this tape, as it comes off right off when peeled.

It’s also water- and heat-resistant, so it can be used outdoors and in rooms that tend to have more moisture in the air, i.e. bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens.

And whether you’re cutting, routing, or performing another woodworking task, this double-sided carpet tape will hold your material in place, regardless of its weight, thickness, etc.

Finally, this 12-yard tape roll is 4.3” x 4.3” x 1.9”, and it works on cloth, wood, concrete, cement, plastic, metal, and glass.

What I Liked:

  • Solid white color means no worrying about adhesive yellowing.
  • Easy to peel and therefore faster to apply.
  • Durability makes it usable both indoors and outdoors.
  • Firmly fixes wood to other materials with no hassles.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Adhesive bond weakens rather quickly (within a few months).
  • Larger width means cutting/slicing almost always required.

My Thoughts

Primens Double Sided Carpet Tape is low-cost carpet tape that works great as double-sided woodworking tape, as it can hold wood and wood-based materials in place even during heavy-duty woodworking tasks. It’s easy to peel too, and whilst being removed it doesn’t leave behind any residue. Plus, it won’t gum up scissors, razors, etc., and it doesn’t yellow surfaces like some woodworking tapes can. If it lasted longer and wasn’t so wide, I believe this tape would be in the running for the #1 spot.

3. ATack Extra Sticky Clear Double-Sided Tape – Easiest to Apply

ATack Double Sided Tape

ATack Extra Sticky Clear Double-Sided Tape is another carpet tape that works just as well as double-sided woodworking tape, since it’s strong, moisture- and heat-resistant, easy to apply and lift, and residue-free.

In terms of strength, it’s twice as strong as many of the carpet tapes on the market right now, and it’s stronger than many woodworking tapes too.

And despite being extra-strong tape, it won’t chip finished surfaces whilst being removed.

Unlike the two tapes discussed already, this tape is clear, so application is a lot easier and more precise.

Also, you won’t have to worry about adhesive yellowing, since it’s transparent.

Like other quality tapes, it won’t leave behind residue whilst being removed, and it can fix wood to a variety of materials, including cloth, concrete, cement, plastic, and metal.

To ensure maximum effectiveness, first wipe down the surface you intend to tape with alcohol or warm soapy water and then let it dry; the tape will adhere much better.

As far as dimensions, go this tape roll is 4.13” x 4.13” x 2” which is a decent size.

What I Liked:

  • Much easier to apply since it’s transparent.
  • Firmly fixed once applied yet still easy to remove.
  • Doesn’t yellow; can be applied to more materials/surfaces.
  • You get a considerable amount of tape for a relatively low price.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • 2-inch width means cutting is almost always necessary.
  • Weakens faster than other carpet and woodworking tapes.

My Thoughts

If an easy and precise tape application is what you’re after, you can’t go wrong with ATack Extra Sticky Clear Double-Sided Tape. This transparent carpet tape provides maximum visibility during application, so if you don’t like how you put it down you can quickly pull it up and reapply. And since it’s colorless tape, you don’t have to worry about it yellowing wood surfaces. Sure, it weakens relatively quickly, but overall it’s a strong, residue-free, easy-to-apply, low-cost double-sided tape that’s totally worth it.

4. LLPT Double Sided Tape for Woodworking – Stickiest

LLPT Double Sided Tape for Woodworking

LLPT Double Sided Tape for Woodworking is an industrial-grade, silicone-based woodworking tape that’s preferred for its stickiness (strength), longevity, and ease of use.

This woodworking tape isn’t hard to apply, nor is it hard to remove.

It’s ideal for CNC machining, pattern routing, anchoring and slicing, turning, and cutting, and it’s used by DIYers, hobbyists, and professional contractors.

Plus, this thick, curling-resistant woodworking tape can withstand up to 120°C.

Using this tape, you can securely fix wood to different materials, including dense plastics, concrete, cement, steel, and aluminum.

It’s easy to peel of this tape’s backing, and it can be cut or sliced in no time with scissors or a razor.

Its strength rating is 28 lbs per square inch making it one of the stronger tapes I’ve used.

There are six sizes available depending on your needs:

  • 25mm/0.98”
  • 35mm/1.38”
  • 45mm/1.77”
  • 55mm/2.17”
  • 65mm/2.56”
  • 100mm/3.94”

What I Liked:

  • One-inch thickness means it can often be applied without cutting
  • Tough enough to withstand even heavy-duty woodworking tasks
  • Adhesive bond lasts longer (1+ years)

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Can yellow surfaces because of its color
  • Color makes achieving precise application more challenging

My Thoughts

Of all the double-sided tapes on this list, LLPT Double Sided Tape for Woodworking holds up longest, as it’s designed to be sturdy for many years. And because its thin widthwise, you don’t have to cut or slice it as much. When you do have to cut/slice, doing so is a breeze, as this tape won’t gum up your cutting tools. If it was solid white or transparent, I could see this product being the best double-sided tape for woodworking, as its strength and reliability are unmatched.

What to Consider When Buying Tape for Woodworking

Stickiness

Stickiness is the most important factor to consider when shopping for woodworking tapes.

You want a tape that’s sticky enough to keep a workpiece firmly in place, but it shouldn’t be so sticky it leaves residue behind when removed.

The vast majority of double-sided tapes are sufficiently sticky, yet it’s still not hard to remove double-sided tape from rough or smooth surfaces.

Size (Width)

Thick tapes, i.e. tapes with greater widths, are better at keeping large, dense materials in place.

But if you’re mainly using tape to secure small workpieces, you’ll have to cut and slice frequently, which can get annoying if you have to use tape multiple times during a project.

Price

Luckily, the prices for double sided tapes are relatively low. In most cases, you can pick up a tape for less than $20.

Final Thoughts

To recap, the best double-sided tape for woodworking is XFasten Double Sided Woodworking Tape, since it’s strong, easy to apply and remove, residue-free, and affordable.

Primens Double Sided Carpet Tape is the best value double-sided tape, since despite being a low-cost product it’s impressively reliable and easy to use.
